Dear Professor Ilyina,
I am most pleased to inform you that one of your students, Nataliya Beklemisheva, was selected for the University of Paris English-language debating team. The team this year is undefeated and on Monday March 29th Nataliya will represent our University in the final debate at the French National Assembly against the highest-ranked school in France, the Ecole Polytechnique.
This event is of particular significance in that in France, Universities are considered less selective than the ‘Grandes Ecoles’ which are ranked as most competitive. The victory of a University over a Grand Ecole is somewhat unheard of.
I take this opportunity to invite you to this extraordinary event. Perhaps you or one of your University professors would be in Paris at that time?
Nataliya has shown an exceptional ability to think quickly on her feet, to draft speeches and to deliver them effectively. She has also shown an exceptional ability at asking Points of Information as well as responding to them in a pertinent manner.
Natalya told me that she hasn’t been to England nor to the USA. As an English teacher I find it very difficult to imagine how she could have acquired such a wonderful mastery of the English language without having studied in an English-speaking country. I congratulate you on your work on developing her talent.
I am also most grateful for having had the opportunity of working with such a gifted student.
