Russia agrees to accept the new resolution on Syria

The so-called Arab Spring has lasted for more than a year and the uprising in Syria continues on. More than 8000 protesters have died so far. The United Nations has offered a resolution endorsing a plan for settling the Syrian crisis and just yesterday after months of contention and resistance Russia agreed. While warning that the resolution should not dissolve into an ultimatum toward the Syrian government. Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov does seem to indicate growing impatience with Syrian president Bashar al-Assad. Russia and China have shielded Assad’s regime from UN sanctions over its crackdown on protesters. The Kremlin has offered a strong support to former Secretary General Kofi Annan who has now joined UN and Arab League’s special envoy to Syria. We are joined now by Andrey Sushentsov, a Lecturer at the Moscow State Institute of International Relations.
